Dan owns a successful chain of auto garages, but while his business flourishes, his personal life suffers. He doesn't date, instead channeling all his attention and energy into his shops. When an old enemy and business rival starts circulating a series of vicious rumors about Dan's sexual proclivities, customers start taking their cars elsewhere. In an effort to escape from the stress, if only for a while, he decides to go out for a night on the town.
Trent is a talented young photographer with a promising career ahead of him-if he could just afford his bills and rent. In an act of desperation, Trent drunkenly decides to sell his body for some much-needed cash. His clumsy attempt at solicitation sends him home with Dan.
The two quickly fall for each other, and in no time, Trent moves in with Dan. Trent continues allowing Dan to believe he was a prostitute, but Dan is hiding a secret of his own. If the secret gets out, it could destroy their relationship.
Will Dan be able to salvage his business? Will Trent make it as a photographer? More importantly, will Dan and Trent's relationship survive the truth?
Authors Scott Pomfret & Scott Whittier are partners and co-writers who started Romentics, romance novels for gay men. Spare Parts stays pretty true to the traditions of the genre. However, just because it follows all the romance rules, it doesn't mean it's boring. There were times (more than once) when I wanted to give the boys a stern talking to, but in the end, I couldn't help rooting for them.
I have to admit, there were a few situations that had me scratching my head and thinking "Like that would ever happen!" I had to remind myself that romance novels play by different rules. Once I got past those relatively minor issues, I really enjoyed the book. The writing is strong and the characters are quite likeable, despite their flaws.
If you enjoy a good romance, be sure to pick up Spare Parts, and check out Scott & Scott's other novels as well. You can visit their website at www.romentics.com.
